Southside Thermal Sciences’ core technology enjoyed continuous endorsements from several governmental funding agencies and investors and through different technical and commercial awards.
Research funding was received from The London Development Agency (LDA), The Carbon Trust (SATURN programme) and several EU funded projects (ASTERIXE and TOPPCOAT). Most recently STS successfully finished a project from the TSB (Technology Strategy Board) in which the sensor system technology was implemented on a Rolls-Royce Viper engine owned by STS.

The aim of this project is to make significant improvements to thermal barrier coating (TBC) systems used for gas turbine applications by introducing a number of key innovations. STS develops APS sensor coatings for high temperature measurements. TBCs are refractory coatings that provide thermal insulation to turbine blades/vanes and are also used as combustion chamber liners in power generation and aviation gas turbines.
